Beam 4K, Inc. (Chagrin Falls, OH) announces Patent Pending status for “Stopping projector glow-through on transparent screens using horizontal microlouvers.” This capability is essential for the company’s upcoming Beam4K™ products, which place an ultra-short-throw 4K projector in front of a transparent glass screen that has a broadcast-quality 4K camera placed behind it. If the thousands of lumens of light coming from the projector were to be allowed to shine through the glass, that light would shine on the walls and ceiling behind the screen and would disrupt the camera’s video image.
“We’re not breaking the laws of physics,” explains Beam 4K CEO Martin Winston, “we’re just bending them to our needs. I’m glad that I paid attention in my high school trigonometry lessons, and even happier that spreadsheets can do those calculations for me. We’re also bending a few laws of optics, where accomplishing this goal usually involves using two polarizing filters, but those would mean a brightness reduction of more than 75% at both the projector and the camera – so, no polarizers. It wasn’t an easy challenge, but the world will soon see that we managed to meet it and beat it.”
This is among 46 claims that are Patent Pending for Winston and Beam 4K. First deliveries of Beam4K™ products are expected to begin in 4Q2025.
